Choose the canonical catalog surface

Decide whether WordPress or Shopify is primary, then align indexing, archives, sitemaps and structured output.

Documentation for Fy2Press 1.0.0. The free plugin is available on WordPress.org. PRO is sold separately through Freemius, our licensing and payment provider.

In three steps

  1. Choose the main product page before enabling index controls.
  2. Keep thin tag archives disabled unless they are intentionally curated.
  3. Inspect canonicals, robots, XML sitemap inclusion and rendered schema on the public URL.

This guide describes Fy2Press 1.0.0. Screens can change in later versions, so check the version shown on the Plugins screen before you follow it.

Expected result

A documented canonical, robots, sitemap and schema policy is verified on rendered Shopify and WordPress URLs. The policy reflects one chosen primary product surface and makes no ranking promise.

Decide whether WordPress or Shopify is primary, then align indexing, archives, sitemaps and structured output.

Before you begin

  • Published test URLs for a product, collection, archive and any relevant taxonomy.
  • A decision about whether Shopify or WordPress is canonical for product pages.
  • Knowledge of the active SEO plugin: core WordPress, Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO or SEOPress.
  • Access to the rendered HTTP response and generated sitemap indexes.

Plan a way back before you start: a backup or a staging copy, the Shopify product you will compare with, and the WordPress page that should show the result. Start with a small test that you can repeat.

What this covers

The SEO baseline is partial. Fy2Press can align supported canonical, robots, sitemap and minimal schema behavior, but it cannot guarantee crawling, indexation, ranking or the behavior of every theme and SEO-plugin version.

Remember who does what: Shopify keeps products, inventory, orders, payments and checkout; Fy2Press brings the catalog into WordPress and displays it; WordPress hosts your pages and editorial content. Nothing in this guide moves orders, customers or payments to WordPress.

Steps

  1. Choose the canonical source for products and document why that surface best answers the target intent.
  2. Render a published product and inspect the final canonical in core and the active SEO integration.
  3. Verify robots directives for products, collections, tags and internal builder templates.
  4. Inspect sitemap indexes and child maps so non-primary or disabled Fy2Press surfaces are absent where required.
  5. Compare schema URLs and action targets with the canonical and verify meaningful internal links from guides and collections.

Review the result before you share a page publicly. A success message is a good sign, but the public page and the Shopify buying path must agree too.

Check the result

  • The canonical is absolute, valid and stable for the intended primary surface.
  • Builder templates are noindex and excluded from sitemaps.
  • A surface canonicalized to Shopify is not silently promoted through a conflicting WordPress product sitemap.

Check the result where visitors will see it: open the public WordPress page, not only the Fy2Press screen, and compare a representative product with Shopify, including its price, availability, variants and collection. Repeat a small change once to confirm that the behaviour is stable.

Common problems

  • Settings and HTML disagree: trust the rendered response, then identify the filter or integration overriding it.
  • Duplicate sitemap nodes remain: inspect the active SEO integration and clear only the relevant generated caches.
  • Schema points at a different URL: align the WebPage or product URL and action targets with the canonical decision.

When something unexpected happens, stop large operations and try again with one product and one page. Keep the exact error message before you change settings or clear caches.

Troubleshooting

  1. Confirm the plugin version and edition (FREE or PRO).
  2. Reproduce the problem with one test product.
  3. Decide whether the issue comes from Shopify, Fy2Press or your WordPress theme.
  4. Compare the result with what your edition includes, as described in the edition guide.
  5. Restore your test setup, try once more and note whether the result repeats.

Security and data

SEO inspection needs public-like URLs, not production customer data. Use fictional or controlled catalog fixtures and avoid exposing tokens in rendered source, logs or test artifacts.

If you ask for help, note the plugin version, the WordPress and PHP versions, your theme or page builder, the page address and the steps you followed. Use test products, and remove tokens, customer data, order details and private addresses from screenshots before sharing them.

Measure crawl and indexation after release as observations, not guarantees. Record the exact URL, response, canonical, robots, sitemap membership, schema and internal-link path for each test case.

Keep the system boundary visible

Shopify remains the commerce source; Fy2Press moves catalog records and rendering contracts; WordPress owns publication.

Verify before moving on

  • Confirm the result in WordPress, not only in the Fy2Press interface.
  • Keep cart and checkout on Shopify.
