Connect one Shopify store safely
Create a public Storefront API token in Shopify's Headless channel, enter it with your store address and test the connection.
Documentation for Fy2Press 1.0.0. The free plugin is available on WordPress.org. PRO is sold separately through Freemius, our licensing and payment provider.
In three steps
- Create a storefront in Shopify's Headless channel and copy its public Storefront API token.
- Enter the store subdomain and the token in Fy2Press, then select Test Connection.
- Save the settings once the intended store is confirmed.
This guide describes Fy2Press 1.0.0. Screens can change in later versions, so check the version shown on the Plugins screen before you follow it.
Expected result
Your Shopify store is connected with its store address and a public Storefront API token, the connection test succeeds and Fy2Press no longer shows the store as Disconnected.
Create a public Storefront API token in Shopify’s Headless channel, enter it with your store address and test the connection.
Before you begin
- Permission to manage sales channels in the Shopify admin of the store.
- Fy2Press installed and its Home screen open.
- The store’s myshopify.com address, for example example-store.myshopify.com.
- WordPress hosting that allows outbound HTTPS requests to Shopify.
Plan a way back before you start: a backup or a staging copy, the Shopify product you will compare with, and the WordPress page that should show the result. Start with a small test that you can repeat.
What this covers
FREE connects one Shopify store. The field expects a public Storefront API token: a private token or an Admin API token is not a substitute. A successful test confirms access to the catalog; nothing is synchronized yet. Shopify’s own tutorial continues with a private token for server code, which is not the value Fy2Press uses.
Remember who does what: Shopify keeps products, inventory, orders, payments and checkout; Fy2Press brings the catalog into WordPress and displays it; WordPress hosts your pages and editorial content. Nothing in this guide moves orders, customers or payments to WordPress.
Steps
- In Shopify, install the Headless sales channel from the Shopify App Store if it is not there yet, then open it.
- Choose Create storefront, or open the storefront you already use for WordPress, then open its Storefront API settings.
- Copy the public Storefront API token. With the store owner, enable only these Storefront API permissions: products and collections (unauthenticated_read_product_listings), product tags (unauthenticated_read_product_tags), product inventory (unauthenticated_read_product_inventory), and cart read and write (unauthenticated_read_checkouts, unauthenticated_write_checkouts). Leave customer, content and metaobject permissions off: Fy2Press does not read customer or order data.
- In WordPress, open Fy2Press → Connection settings. In Store URL, type only the part before .myshopify.com, then paste the token in Public Storefront API token.
- Select Test Connection, confirm that this is the intended store, then select Save Settings.
Review the result before you share a page publicly. A success message is a good sign, but the public page and the Shopify buying path must agree too.
Check the result
- Connection Status no longer shows Disconnected after the test.
- The Home screen no longer asks you to connect Shopify.
- The token stays hidden in the settings screen unless you select Show, and it never appears on public pages.
Check the result where visitors will see it: open the public WordPress page, not only the Fy2Press screen, and compare a representative product with Shopify, including its price, availability, variants and collection. Repeat a small change once to confirm that the behaviour is stable.
Common problems
- Unauthorized: the token is not the public Storefront token, belongs to another store or was revoked.
- Store not found: type only the myshopify.com subdomain, without https://, a path or your custom domain.
- Network error: ask your host whether WordPress can make outbound HTTPS requests to Shopify, and send the error message, never the token.
When something unexpected happens, stop large operations and try again with one product and one page. Keep the exact error message before you change settings or clear caches.
Troubleshooting
- Confirm the plugin version and edition (FREE or PRO).
- Reproduce the problem with one test product.
- Decide whether the issue comes from Shopify, Fy2Press or your WordPress theme.
- Compare the result with what your edition includes, as described in the edition guide.
- Restore your test setup, try once more and note whether the result repeats.
Security and data
The public token is designed for storefront requests, but keep it out of screenshots, support messages and shared documents. Never enter a private Storefront token or an Admin API token in Fy2Press.
If you ask for help, note the plugin version, the WordPress and PHP versions, your theme or page builder, the page address and the steps you followed. Use test products, and remove tokens, customer data, order details and private addresses from screenshots before sharing them.
Effect on search
Connecting a store creates no public page. Before you synchronize, decide in Google and SEO whether WordPress or Shopify should hold the main product address.

Verify before moving on
- Confirm the result in WordPress, not only in the Fy2Press interface.
